Allen Bennett has been farming the land in West Point, Utah – the same land that his ancestors once tilled – for almost as long as he’s been able to walk. His love for farming is a legacy Allen embraced as a young man, one that was passed on by many generations of successful farmers before him. You might say that farming was his destiny. It certainly is in his genes.
Becky Wright, a journalist at the Ogden Standard Examiner, has chronicled Allen’s inherited passion for farming in her documentary of a typical year on the Bennett farm. In spending that year on the Bennett farm, Becky discovered in Allen a bit of the character and commitment common to all the men of our Bennett/Simpson heritage. In addition to hard work and perseverance, you need optimism and a bit of a gambler’s soul to make a living working the good earth.
